Red rock, yellow rock, stripey rock...

Sunday, 10h February
A walk in the Desert not dessert.

Finally, we get the chance to get out into the countryside or should I say the desert.  Todays expedition was to Red Rock Canyon only 15 or so miles from our house.  This would require us to do some virtual geocaches scrambling over rocks and walking across deserts. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a very popular area. We parked at the visitors centre as I needed to get some postcards and it gave us the opportunity to have another picnic in the car.

There is an outside area where you can get a fantastic view of the Calico trails with the Red and Yellow Rock formations of sandstone and limestone.  The climbers love this area and we were lucky to see one or two mad folk scaling these dizzy heights.  Walking from the car park area we headed for the ancient sand dunes with their striped formation  very impressive, One of our Caching tasks was to count the lines of stratification in one particular area.  More like counting sheep.

Once you set out in your car there is a 13 mile one way road around the area which takes in many view points from where you can see for miles and miles including a brilliant view of Vegas in the valley.

It really is well worth a visit as it is really impossible to tell and show you all how beautiful/awesome this area is.  Amazing.

Although the Visitors Centre offers restrooms there is no cafe so bring your own refreshments, then get out and follow the trails to see some fantastic sights.

Treat for tonight was to go to a place BJs.  There is nothing food wise you can't get here.  My choice, fish and chips.  The portions, goes without saying were huge.  Peach Margaritta wasn't bad either.  Tired now off to bed.
